University of Rhode Island sophomore landscape architecture and art student Emily Humphrey has collaborated with Hera Gallery of Wakefield, Rhode Island, to curate an exhibition on green design in landscape architecture. This exhibition will have a focus on the role landscape architects play in addressing environmental issues, and will highlight their design process. The exhibition will be made up of a selection of work from local students, academics, and professionals.

Through this exhibition, Emily hopes to educate the community about landscape architecture and developments in the field by local educational and professional sectors. The exhibition will include work in a variety of media, including drawings, drafts, electronically created images, and photographs. Designs focus on native plantings, wind power in coastal communities, green streets, and rain gardens. Also featured will be a project by Kim Murdock and Richard Youngken on the Situate Reservoir and Environmental Protection Agency design standards.

Exhibitors include URI undergraduate students, Allison Desbonnet, Rachel Salch and Dennis Staton, URI graduate student Nick Thadeio, Rhode Island School of Design graduate student Jian Bao, URI Professor and graduate Angelo Simeoni, URI graduate and Landscape Designer Kim Murdock in collaboration with Richard Youngken, Kristin Kaczmarek of John C. Carter and Company, Catherine Weaver of Tupelo Garden Works, The Offices of Thomas Balsley, a Landscape Architect office in NYC, and Klopfer & Martin Design Group in Cambridge, MA.

The exhibition will take place in Hera Gallery’s new location on 10 High Street in Wakefield, RI. The public is invited to attend the opening reception of "Design for Change" held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20th
