Another Paint-By-Number Kit Completed!

Here is another Paint-By-Number Kit , which was done by our wonderful intern, Becky Peabody . The image doesn't really do the work justice, she has painted the image, and introduced other textural medias including glitter, moss, thread and textiles. CALL FOR ENTRIES: 2010 ACGOW Regional Art Exhibit

The Artists Cooperative Gallery of Westerly is looking for work for their 2010 Regional Art Exhibition. "The Regional Show is a juried exhibit open to local and regional artists. Held annually in the Spring, this exhibit features some of the most diverse artwork seen in the gallery all year. Exceptional work is recognized in various categories and accompanied by cash prizes and gift certificates. All fine art and craft media eligible. All work must be original, one of a kind, and not previously exhibited at the gallery. Works must be for sale. NFS and POR not accepted. Work to be hung must be suitable framed and finished and ready to hang with screw eyes and wire attached. A 15% Commission will be taken on the sale of work by all non-members & associate members." PAINT BY NUMBERS!

We have gotten our first completed paint by numbers kit back, and it's amazing! Gallery member, Jeannette Jacobs, transformed her paint by numbers kit into a 8 piece movable sculpture. Each piece is a six-sided block, with an image from the painting on it. The over all piece is very tactile and instantly puts a smile on your face! Paint By Numbers Lottery Spring Fundraiser April 17th Hera Galleries highly anticipated spring fundraiser, a Paint By Numbers Lottery, is quickly approaching. Hera has invited fifty artists to transform the well-known Paint By Number kits into unique works of. The resulting artwork will then be made available to purchase via a random lottery system, which guarantees every ticket buyer a one of a kind piece of artwork. This lottery will take place on April 17th at a venue yet to be announced. Returning to MAIN STREET!

We here at Hera Gallery are very excited to share with you the fact that the gallery will be moving back to our main street gallery location this spring! After more than 34 years of bringing art to Southern Rhode Island, Main Street has become our heart and our home. It has been two years since Hera has left our home on Main Street, and we have appreciated the support that we have received from our community during our time of 'homelessness.' Hera On The Road was a challenging and rewarding endeavour, which enabled us to form bonds with people and organizations that we wouldn't normally have the opportunity to work with. We have viewed this time as two years of being 'out of the box,' every aspect of our operation has had to be adapted to the challenge of being without a tangible gallery. The Young Artists and Their Mentors show (part 2 of 3) opened at Bagelz in Wakefield on Friday March 5th, 2010. Thank you to everyone who came out to the opening! We had a great turn out with lots of great people, great live music, and some really impressive art work. The show is open until May 5th in the meeting room at Bagelz, Wakefield, so if you haven't checked it out already, go take a look!

Main Street Independent Film Festival Call For Entries

Hera Gallery announces a Call for Entries for films and videos to be submitted to the Main Street Independent Film Festival organized by Historic Wakefield Village Downtown Merchants’ Association, Hera Gallery, South County Players/Children’s Theatre, Independent Newspapers, and South Kingstown Parks and Recreation. The festival will take place in historic Wakefield, Rhode Island. Screenings will take place at Church of the Ascension on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 9, 10 and 11, 2010. Films and videos will be accepted in the following genres: Narrative/Open (ideal run-time of 30 minutes or under); Documentary (ideal run-time of 20 minutes or under); Experimental (ideal run-time of 15 minutes or under); Animation (ideal run-time of 15 minutes or under); News Segment (ideal run-time of 5 minutes or under); and Commercial/ PSA (ideal runtime of 1 minute or under). Background Information: In a time of increasing financial concern, the creative community is more and more affected by today’s economy. The objective of this show is to open a discourse reflecting the effect that money has on today’s cultural community. Whether reflecting upon your own personal relationship with money, or the ‘Keeping up with the Jones.’ mentality, or reflections upon recent Wall Street debacles, or society as a whole’s attitudes towards wealth, the common denominator for works accepted to this show will be a critical look at MONEY.
