"Every man a Rembrandt!"…

It's spring fundraising time, and this year we are planning a Paint-by-Numbers Lottery.

Paint-by-numbers kits are a well-known icon that grew out of the democratic idea that anyone might paint a picture. This popular pastime is attributed to Max S Klein, the owner of Palmer Paint Company, and to artist Dan Robbins, who conceptualized the idea and created many of the original paintings. These kits have been distributed widely since 1951, and have since been embraced by many contemporary artists, including Russian émigré artists Vitaly Komar and Alex Melamid. The pop artists of the 1960’s also embraced paint-by-number kits as part of a commentary on popular culture.

Hera Gallery is very excited about this fundraiser; however, we need your help in order to make it possible. We strongly encourage you to donate your time and creativity to this event. This is a fantastic opportunity that will allow you to apply your chosen artistic medium in a new way, and will also allow you to support Hera Gallery. Please personalize your very own paint-by-numbers kit to be added to the lottery.

The lottery will take place on April 17th at a venue yet to be announced. Every ticket is guaranteed a painting, but there will be a limited number of tickets sold, so it is quite an exclusive fundraiser. Tickets will cost $50 to receive an upscaled paint-by-number piece, but all are welcome to attend the event without buying a ticket. There will be food, refreshments, and music at the lottery event.
