In Progress Senior Seminar Spring 2020 Exhibition Catalogue May 22, 2020 For the Department of Art & Art History at URI, the Senior Seminar class represents the capstone course for those approaching their hard-earned BFA degrees.  Students arrive with a diverse set of skills in various media, and work towards a final group exhibition, which has been an annual event at Hera Gallery for quite a few years.  Mid-semester, plans for physical installation at the gallery were halted, students’ projects were temporarily abandoned on campus, and students were sent home, wondering how we would continue. During our many online video meetings, the group decided the best way to move forward was to create an exhibition catalogue, where the written thoughts, the documentation of the work, and the spirit of this collaboration could be shared among our audience.  Our friends, family, faculty, artists, and peers can now experience the journey this Senior Sem...

Hello all! My name is Benjamin Riley, and I am the Hera Gallery’s newest intern for the Winter/Spring time. I am a junior at the University of Rhode Island with a double major in Studio Art and Art History. I’ve lived in Rhode Island most of my life and focus my time and effort towards art and supporting the arts. If you were ever to try to me, you can find me at the beach, no matter the season. When it comes to art, my mediums vary. I work in graphite, I print-make, and I dabble in digital photography quite often. Drawing has always been an escape for me and I’ve been working at it and practicing all my life. When it comes to my drawings, I focus a lot in blending it in with other mediums, creating mixed media pieces. When it comes to my photography, I focus on model photography and turning the human body into art. Sara Breslin is a recent graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. She has been part of five group shows including the 2013 Senior Seminar Exhibition at Studio Z in Providence, the 2014 Senior Seminar Exhibition held at the University of Rhode Island, and two University of Rhode Island Carlotti Exhibitions (2014, 2013).   Most recently Sara was part of a group show called XVIII: A Collection of Emerging Artists at Hera Gallery in Wakefield.   She is based in Rhode Island and her focus is illustration, painting and mixed media work.   She is also known for her love of and undeniable talent in portrait painting and has had extensive commission.   Currently, Sara is also working on her first graphic novel entitled The Human War, which deals with the relationship between nature and mankind.   The work to be displayed at the World’s Smallest Art Gallery is a series of works related to the development...

Mithu Sen will be at URI next Tuesday! Mithu Sen is an Indian artist known for her fantastical and provocative multi-media (painting, drawing, performance...) works that earned her India’s inaugural Skoda Prize in 2010. Sen studied at Santiniketan before continuing her art studies at the Glasgow School of Art. Sen’s work consists of motifs that playfully subvert commonly held beliefs about femininity and sexuality. Sen’s intuitive, free-spirited practice invites viewers into her own personal psyche and streams of consciousness, allowing them to discover new identities including their own. Sen exhibits internationally. The public is invited to attend the screening, which will take place at Hera Gallery located on 10 High Street Wakefield, RI on February 27th at 7:00pm. The screening will feature the work of eight students from faculty member, Keith Brown’s advanced classes. The annual URI faculty exhibition is back! A perfect way to kick off the new academic year of creative innovation, both full time and adjunct faculty will be exhibiting their works to the public free of charge. The show is currently open at the URI Main Gallery, Fine Arts Center and will run to September 25, 2013.  The exhibition hours are Monday-Friday from 12:30 pm to 4 pm.   Lineations 1 Barbara Pagh Barbara Pagh is a printmaker and papermaker who is a Full Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at URI.  She has been a member of Hera Gallery in Wakefield, RI since 1985, serves on the Board of Directors and is currently President.  

Hey everyone! What an exciting week it has been! The balls begun rolling in numerous endeavors...I have registered for some great studio and plant science courses for the fall semester, got an exciting summer job at the URI Agronomy Research Farm, gone to my first URI American Association of Landscape Architects (ASLA) meeting, AND talked to the first professional landscape architect about my intern project/show here (and may i mention....he's world renowned)! At the ASLA meeting, I met my peers in the landscape architecture program. They showed be around the studio, which is beautiful! Its on the top floor of Rodman Hall, and has gorgeous sky lights. There are individual work spaces throughout the large space, designated for each grade level. There were some great projects on the walls including some hypothetical designs for East Farm. They were so impressive! At the meeting, we discussed projects for this month, since it's National Landscape Architecture Month, and earth day ...

Hera Gallery member, Michael Yefko's drawings appear in the inaugural edition of The Ocean State Review published by the University 0f Rhode Island. Contact the Ocean State Writers Conference for details.

We are pleased to announce Michaels Yefko's sculpture installation Sod . Michaels' sculptures and 2-dimensional works tend to reference concepts of dreams, loss, house, and home; he utilizes the symbol of the house as a stand in for the self and as a means to exercise his anger over the loss of the natural world for the sake of the built suburban spectacle . By incorporating loaded symbolic objects such as a house, Michael stimulates the viewer to have a personal connection to the work that carries such a potent context with it. The installation will be open to the public March 3rd - 28th at the Kingston URI Fine Arts Center, Monday - Thursday 11-4pm.  Be sure to swing by URI and check it out!
