Hey everybody, it's Islay... I just went online and discovered that the exhibit that I curated in Providence, Chromophilia , has been reviewed in one of our local papers, The Providence Phoenix . The article, by Greg Cook, highlights some of the work in the exhibition and touches upon the aesthetic of the show. Personally, I'm always so glad to have contemporary art jewelry written about, because it hardly ever happens and I appreciate that critics are willing to learn about this emerging field and present it to a larger audience. This was originally posted on my blog, Evocative Objects , and is the documentation from the exhibit that I recently curated in D.C. The show, Objectified: the domestication of the industrial, features the work Robert Longyear, Colleen Heineman, Andrea Miller, and Jeanne Jo. So, I've finally had a moment to sit down and get this post up since returning from D.C. I had a great time in Washington, Honfleur was a wonderful gallery to work with, and the people from ARCH (a nonprofit, and Honflers parent company) were so helpful and friendly. I also kindof fell in love with the neighborhood of Anacostia, which is a historic neighborhood south of the river in D.C. Although Anacostia has a little bit of a bad reputation, as far as I can tell, it's unwarranted. There is a wonderful arts and revitalization movement going on in the area, and it really shows... it doesn't have a static feel at all, but you can actually feel Anacostia buzz and hum with energy and forward moveme...

Objectified will feature the work of Robert Longyear , Jeanne Jo , Andrea Miller, and Colleen Heineman . The show brings together the work of four artists utilizing different media, and working in different methods. The commonality that these artists share is a philosophical approach to their subject matter, each artist presented here acts as a conduit transforming common materials and concepts into fine art. Whether transforming detritus into wearable works of art, or meticulously creating a knit codex, the artists of Objectified act as an intermediary, allowing their source materials to become more accessible to the viewer.
