Broches/Pagh

OPENING SATURDAY FROM 6-8PM! Alexandra Broches Letters and Pictures from a Box While closing her family home after her father died, Broches found a box containing more letters, photographs and documents than she had previously seen. Her father rarely spoke about the loss of his family and what had happened to this Dutch Jewish family during World War II. So began a project that continues today to construct the family narrative and reflect on the process undertaken to understand who she is and where she came from. The mysteries and memories within the box constitute the foundation of the photographs and personal reflections in this exhibition. Alexandra Broches is a fine art photographer. She lives and maintains her studio in Wakefield, Rhode Island and has been a member of Hera Gallery since 1975.  Barbara Pagh Intervals Barbara Pagh will be exhibiting a new series of prints, “Intervals”. CALL FOR ENTRY: GEOMETRY

Image
Concept: Geometry is the branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs. In the arts it has referred to the shape and relative arrangement of the parts of something and includes concepts such as the golden ratio and the use of geometric symbols. It can be found historically in Islamic & Renaissance art, folk art quilts, and was embraced as an aesthetic by the great masters of modern art in the 20th Century. It continues to thrive today as exemplified by artists utilizing algorithms and expressing them through visual means. When art and math are used in conjunction, moments of true interdisciplinary coordination occur . This national juried exhibition at Hera Gallery seeks to exhibit a varied perspective on contemporary views of geometry including, but NOT limited to, pattern (whether in data or aesthetic), fractals, string theory, along with the formal vocabulary of geometry from ...

Introducing Our New Intern, Ben Riley!

Image
Hello all! My name is Benjamin Riley, and I am the Hera Gallery’s newest intern for the Winter/Spring time. I am a junior at the University of Rhode Island with a double major in Studio Art and Art History. I’ve lived in Rhode Island most of my life and focus my time and effort towards art and supporting the arts. If you were ever to try to me, you can find me at the beach, no matter the season. When it comes to art, my mediums vary. I work in graphite, I print-make, and I dabble in digital photography quite often. Drawing has always been an escape for me and I’ve been working at it and practicing all my life. When it comes to my drawings, I focus a lot in blending it in with other mediums, creating mixed media pieces. When it comes to my photography, I focus on model photography and turning the human body into art. After I graduate from URI, I plan on going to graduate school for my master’s degree in Museum Studies. I am very excited to be apart of the Hera Gal...
