Real to Reel documentary films on the theme of courage All films at 7pm Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of South County 27 North Road, Peace Dale, RI Organized by Iris Donnelly Freedom Summer (2014) Friday, September 19, 2014 Over 10 memorable weeks in 1964 known as Freedom Summer, 700 courageous student volunteers from around the country joined organizers and local African-Americans in a historic effort to shatter the foundation of white supremacy in Mississippi.   In 1964, less than 7 percent of Mississippi’s African-Americans were registered to vote, compared to 50 to 70 percent in other southern states.   When faced with possible loss of jobs and violence, many were dissuaded from registering to vote.

"New Visions" will display the work of Connie Greene, Mara Trachtenberg, Elizabeth Lind, MJ Yeager, Jill McLaughlin, and Iris Donnelly (who's photographic work is pictured below!).

CUBAN FILM SERIES THURSDAYS AT 7:00PM May 23 rd :     GALLERY TALK with curator, Iris Donnelly,  followed by Will the Real Terrorist Please Stand Up?   Facilitated by Jose Torrealba, organizer for many years of the  RI Latin American Film Festival " Will the real terrorist please stand up?   chronicles half a century of hostile US-Cuba relations.  By telling the story of the case of the Cuban five, intelligence agents sent to penetrate Cuban exile terrorist groups in Miami and now serving long prison sentences, the film highlights decades of assassinations and sabotage at first backed by Washington and then ignored by the very government that launched a “war against terrorism.” In the film, viewers see leading terrorists, now in their 80s, recounting their deeds, and Cuban state security officials explaining why they infiltrated agents into violent Miami exile groups." -http://realterrorist.wordpress.com/

  In Cuba With Witness for Peace May 11th  – June 8th  Opening Reception:  Saturday, May 11th, 6:00 – 8:00pm In Cuba With Witness for Peace portrays in photographs the people, culture, and landscape of Cuba.  The photographers, Iris Donnelly, Michael Hyatt and Eliud Martinez recorded their trip to Cuba in April, 2012 while part of an Arts and Culture delegation with Witness for Peace New England. The exhibit is consistent with the mission of Witness for Peace (WFP), a nationwide, politically independent grassroots organization, which supports peace, justice, and sustainable economies of the Americas by changing US policies and corporate practices that contribute to poverty and oppression in Latin America and the Caribbean.    The Cuban Constitution guarantees its citizens the right to appreciate all forms of artistic expression.  As the photographers visited artists' studios, art schools and music venues, they saw that art and music are ...
