#MeetHeraArtistElizabethLind      Tell us your artist story, some biographical info, when did you decide to be an artist? Why do you make art? Where did you study? Etc. I've always been drawn to the human figure, especially women, and their environments, either real or imagined. I enjoy a sensual surrealism in my work and utilize meaningful objects to create a visual poetry.  What do you want people to walk away with after experiencing your work? Literature on natural phenomenon, as well as the literary works of Goethe and Rilke are always inspiring, intertwining with the symbolism of the sea, branches, the sky, birds, and most especially sirens. What influences your work? Why? My background includes a deep love of the ocean, an education from RISD, the ownership of a bronze foundry, and interacting with many students who will always be in my heart. Newport Mercury, Vol 256, No. 14 4/10/13 The Newport Mercury featured member Alexandra Broches in last week's issue to promote the Newport Art Museum's Newport Annual Members Juried Exhibition. Broches received honorable mention in the Newport Art Museum show that runs through May 19th. She was one of three Hera members to win accolades in the show. Elizabeth Lind earned First Place in the Three Dimensional category and Barbara Pagh earned an honorable mention for her piece in the Prints/Pastels/Drawings category.

Three Hera Gallery Members were recognized this month at Newport Annual Members' Juried Exhibition. The exhibit, on view until May 19th, 2013 " showcases new work by some of the region's brightest lights, rising stars and undiscovered talents". Juried this year by Virginia K. Freyermuth, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Art Edcuation at Rhode Island College, and painter-printmaker Nancy Frieses, Professor at Rhode Island School of Design . Tea at 5 Please join artists Elizabeth Lind and Viera Levitt for 'Tea at 5' at Hera Gallery on Thursday, August 30th from 5 to 8 p.m. for a cup of tea and an informal talk about their work. The first double-solo show in the new Hera Gallery space is ending on September 1st and we invite you to celebrate the new space with us in this closing reception. Elizabeth will also bring the tools she uses to create her stone sculptures. Elizabeth Lind: Figs, Figures and Other Mysteries July 28th through September 1st Hera Gallery is pleased to present "Figs, Figures and Other Mysteries", a solo exhibition of works by Elizabeth Lind from July 28th through September 1st, 2012. The exhibition will take place in our new location on 10 High Street in Wakefield, RI. Elizabeth Lind speaks through the language of symbols, creating sculptures of women, evocative environments, and natural objects that allude to deeper meanings within the work. Employing direct carving techniques and using the tools and materials of thousands of years ago, her work explores the fluid nature of shifting forms under the stone’s surface. Lind works primarily in alabaster and marble using a simple mallet and steel hand tools. Gallery member and sculptor Elizabeth Lind will be exhibiting a work, Pool of Thought, at the Attleboro Art Museum . Her work will be up through the 30th of this month, go check it out! 

Hera Gallery is excited to have a new artist member, Elizabeth Lind! Lind has been inspired by the natural world within her reach, drawing influence specifically from sea forms and the human figure. Her work explores the bods between people, such as life, death, joy, betrayal, fertility, motherhood, and the celebration of the aesthetic of forms. Primarily a stone carver, she works multiple stones at once, revealing the potential works of art hidden within the media. She works to find the possibilities hidden beneath the surface of he stones that she works with, revealing fluid, dreamlike sculptures. Lind also works in mixed media sculptures, which she has generously donated to numerous Hera fundraisers in the past. We are glad to have Elizabeth at the gallery, and look forward to the insight that she will bring to the organization.
