Landscape At The Edge:
Contemporary Views

Juror: Michele L’Heureux is a working artist, Gallery Director of The Beard and Weil Galleries at Wheaton College, and Curator of the Kniznick Gallery at Brandeis University.

Concept: The contemporary viewing of the landscape is pluralistic and reflective of human relationships to the natural and manmade environment.

This national juried show seeks a varied perspective on what contemporary landscape is through the artist’s engagement with the subject. We seek to explore the meaning of place, political or environmental issues related to the landscape, urban and rural landscapes, natural and manmade landscapes, or other points of view.

Application Deadline: Friday, February 7th, 2014. 

Exhibition Dates:  Saturday, April 5th- Saturday, May 3rd, 2014

Opening Reception: Saturday, April 5th 2014, 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Eligibility: Open to works of any medium depicting landscape as the main subject. 3D limited to 100 lbs and must fit through a 5’10” x 6’8” door. 2D must fit through said door.

Entry Fee: Each artist may submit 3 entries for $30. Judging will be done from digital files. Fees are non-refundable.

Work should be submitted either electronically to be sent to info@heragallery.org with “LANDSCAPE” in the subject line or on a CD. Files should contain jpeg images of work; an image list that contains artist name, address, phone numbers, email, title of work, year completed, medium, dimension (h x w x d) and price. Jpegs must be 300 dpi and maximum 1024 pixels on the longest side.

Notification Of Acceptance: Hera Gallery will contact artists by Wednesday, March 5th regarding the inclusion of their artwork into Landscape at the Edge. 

Insurance: Although the utmost care will be taken in handling your work, Hera Gallery assumes no responsibility for damage, loss, or theft.  Artists are responsible for their own insurance.

Delivery: Pieces can be dropped off at Hera Gallery, 10 High Street, Wakefield, RI on Saturday, March 29th between 10:00am and 4:00pm. Or if mailed, please send to Hera Gallery, 10 High Street, Suite 1B. Piece(s) need to arrive by March 28th. Please ask mailer to deliver piece during gallery hours.

Return Shipping: Artist is responsible for all shipping costs and shipping containers.  Artist must include prepaid return shipping label.
Sales Commission: Hera Gallery retains a 25% sales commission

Photography/Publicity: Hera Gallery reserves the right to photograph work for publicity.  By entering this exhibition, you agree to the use of your name, likeness, certain personal information, and artwork in any publicity material or documentation developed for the exhibition.

Hera  Gallery is currently exhibiting work by Kathie Florsheim and Barbara Pagh through September 5th. Stop by Wednesday - Friday from 1-5pm, and Saturday from 1-4pm. You can also view their extensive bodies of work on our website! https://www.heragallery.org/ current Both artists are exhibiting new work this fall after they recognized shared interests in the coastal environment. Pagh voices she decided to revisit the theme of the Rhode Island coast: “For Matunuck Intervals, I began in September by walking on the South Kingstown town beach and Moonstone Beach on an almost daily basis, using my phone to photograph details of patterns in the sand, sand fences, rocks, piles of slipper shells, burlap bags that form a buffer for a house. The photographs were altered on the computer and became digital negatives that were then exposed onto light-sensitive lithographic plates and printed on a variety of thin Asian papers.
