HERA GALLERY'S ANNUAL APPEAL

Dear Friends of Hera,

Have you visited Hera Gallery in the past year? If so, you have seen that we have settled into our new space at 10 High Street and are currently in our 40th year of programming. We have a full schedule of exhibitions scheduled for the coming year and in May 2014 we will celebrate with a 40th Anniversary Exhibition at the Hoxie Gallery in Westerly.

In June, I became President and Mara Trachtenberg became Vice President. In August, our Gallery Director, Dora Szekely, left to pursue other opportunities and our intern Abigael McGuire became Interim Director while we conducted a search. We are pleased to announce that Abigael was selected as Director. We have some new members of the gallery whose work you will see in upcoming exhibitions.

Once again we have received operational support from RISCA for the coming year and received positive remarks from the panel. However since RISCA’s budget was decreased by 8%, so was our grant and we have been told that we can expect another cut next year. Community support becomes more important as grants and governmental funding have continued to decrease.

Hera Gallery's 2013-2014 Income
We know that these are difficult economic times, but it’s important to remember that we are a small organization and every donation will make a real difference. Our income comes from Friends of Hera, artist members’ dues, the RISCA grant, sales of artwork, and fundraising events such as our Having a Wonderful Time postcard sale and our November Small Works exhibition and Silent Auction. The attached graph shows you our FY 2013-2014 goal of $8500 that includes the Friends of Hera membership drive, the Annual Appeal and cash box donations. This amount is consistent with our FY 2012-2013 budget figures.

For this Annual Appeal we have set a goal of $3500. It is only through your generosity that Hera will be able to maintain our local presence and our excellent programming in the arts.

Yours truly,
Barbara Pagh
President
