Call For Entries: EARTHWORKS, Open Juried Clay Annual, 2012

The South County Art Association is inviting artists to submit up to 5 original works in clay. The opening reception is Thursday, April 19, 7-9pm. Call For Entries: 2012 ACGOW Regional Art Exhibit

Hi Everyone! The Artists' Cooperative Gallery of Westerly is looking for pieces to exhibit in its 19th Annual Regional Art Exhibit, on view from May 2 to June 2. According to their website, this exhibition is the biggest and most exciting of the year! This show invites artists from all over New England and New York to submit work and attend. This is a juried show where over $1800 in cash prizes/aw ards will be given out. The selected jurors for this year are Guido Garaycochea and Jose Ulloa, Directors of Expressiones Cultural Center in New London, CT. Awards include a $100 Washington Trust Company Award, the $100 Neerkaje Family Award, a $100 award in honor of Theresa Cosma, a $200 Dr. Walia and Family Award, $50 in honor of Pam Nelson, and a $1,250 award from the Katherine Forest Craft Foundation. Hera Gallery Director, Islay Taylor , has her work appearing in Vogue Italia... Turns out that my work made it into the cover story of this months Vogue Italia! Check out the two images below that I was able to pull from a GIF that Vogue Italia made as a preview for the issue. I love how bright, saturated, and glossy all the images are. Very candy shoppe meets Priscilla Queen of the Desert. I can already tell that I want to frame every image and hang them on my walls for inspiration!

Michael Yefko exhibits at URI's Corridor Gallery

URI’s Department of Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of drawings by Michael Yefko titled “Elleipsis: Falling Short.” The exhibition is in the Corridor Gallery of the Fine Arts Center on the Kingston Campus of the University of Rhode Island, 105 Upper College Rd, Kingston, RI. The Exhibition will run from March 15 – May 1, 2012. There will be a reception on March 21, 6-8 PM for this show and the Banister Society exhibition located in the Main Gallery. Some of the drawings in this exhibition can also be seen in the inaugural issue of The Ocean State Review. Mr. Yefko lives and works in Exeter, RI. Known primarily for his sculpture installations, Mr. Yefko in this exhibition features drawing, which to him is about “an epic journey of breath and experience, a verb.” Yefko describes his improvisational process of working the ellipse in his drawings as “a foundation from which to build a pattern and construct something (space or form) out of the (drawing) situations I get myself into...

Second Annual Postcard Fundraiser

On  April 28th , Hera will hold its second annual postcard fundraiser! We are seeking 2,000 artists' postcards created as original works of art to sell at $15 each for benefit of the gallery. Postcards will be displayed online prior to the fundraiser. A reception featuring music, food, and fun will be held on Saturday April 28th, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM .   Hera Gallery could use your help by asking you to create postcards for this event and recruit other artists to aid in this effort!  You may contribute individual postcards or editions of postcards. They can be stamped and sent through the mail, put in an envelope, or delivered to the gallery. Postcards will be accepted on a rolling basis.  The deadline for inclusion in the fundraiser is Saturday April 21 . All cards become the property of Hera Gallery. Artists are asked to sign and date the back side of the postcard and to include any information they would like to make available: a message, contact information, artists statement, ...

CCRI gallery issues call for community members, artists to participate in ‘Cat Show’ exhibition Warwick, R.I. – Feb. 13, 2012: Knight Campus Art Gallery Director and Curator Viera Levitt is seeking professional artists and members of the community to participate in an exhibition this spring focusing on the image of cats in contemporary art, life and our relationship to them. “Cat Show (Come to Mama!)” will be composed of work that reacts to the way Americans look at, care for, treat, pamper and love their cats. It will run from April 3 to 25 at the college’s Warwick campus with a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12. Levitt writes, “Cats have been companions throughout history – albeit, as all cat lovers know, in a much less predictable way than dogs.” They were supposed to catch mice, but their role has also been that of beautiful and elegant companions ‘pretending’ to be timid and domesticated.
