CALL FOR ENTRIES: "Landscape at the Edge: Contemporary Views"

H E R A  G A L L E R Y Is pleased to announce an open call for… Landscape At The Edge: Contemporary Views Juror:   Michele L’Heureux is a working artist, Gallery Director of The Beard and Weil Galleries at Wheaton College, and Curator of the Kniznick Gallery at Brandeis University. Concept:  The contemporary viewing of the landscape is pluralistic and reflective of human relationships to the natural and manmade environment. This national juried show seeks a varied perspective on what contemporary landscape is through the artist’s engagement with the subject. We seek to explore the meaning of place, political or environmental issues related to the landscape, urban and rural landscapes, natural and manmade landscapes, or other points of view. Application Deadline:  Friday, February 7th, 2014.  Exhibition Dates:   Saturday,   April 5 th - Saturday, May 3 rd , 2014 Opening Reception:  Saturday, April 5 th  2014, 6:00 – 8:00

Hera Gallery opens back up tomorrow at 1pm, so come down and view Hera Member Myron Rubenstein's untitled intaglio prints and the works of many other local artist's in our Small Works exhibition! HERA GALLERY'S ANNUAL APPEAL

Dear Friends of Hera,   Have you visited Hera Gallery in the past year? If so, you have seen that we have settled into our new space at 10 High Street and are currently in our 40 th year of programming. We have a full schedule of exhibitions scheduled for the coming year and in May 2014 we will celebrate with a 40 th Anniversary Exhibition at the Hoxie Gallery in Westerly.   In June, I became President and Mara Trachtenberg became Vice President. In August, our Gallery Director, Dora Szekely, left to pursue other opportunities and our intern Abigael McGuire became Interim Director while we conducted a search. We are pleased to announce that Abigael was selected as Director. We have some new members of the gallery whose work you will see in upcoming exhibitions.   Once again we have received operational support from RISCA for the coming year and received positive remarks from the panel. Welcoming MJ Yeager

We are pleased to welcome one of our new members MJ Yeager  to the Hera community. MJ is a local artist and designer. She worked in the design field from 1974 in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, New York City, Washington DC and Maine until 1994 shortly after the birth of her daughter is when she and her family moved to Maine. It was then that she retired from the graphic design field and began teaching art to children and adults. She moved here to Rhode Island in 2003 and taught art locally at Quest Montessori School. Teaching provided her an opportunity to fine-tune her own expressive art forms including painting and blended media collage. Her 20-plus year career as a graphic designer may explain her passion for the process of collage. As a designer/art director in the 70s, 80s and early 90s prior to the onset of digital technologies, all of the design and production was prepared in cut-and-paste format and sent to print houses for reproduction. Paul Forte featured in Numéro Cinq Magazine

Congratulations to one of our artists Paul Forte for being featured in  Numéro Cinq    Magazine!  Numéro Cinq  is an online international journal of arts and letters  founded in 2010 .
