A Night of Artist Talks, Readings and Video

Tonight, Wednesday, December 19th at the Hoxie Gallery in The Westerly
Public Library located on 44 Broad Street, Westerly, RI, the artists of
Sandy and Its Aftermath will be presenting a night of Artist Talks,
Readings and Video from 5:30 to 7:30pm. This will be a relaxed night
where artists will share their work with the public and each other.
You are invited to join us for the last event of this exhibition where
the poems submitted will be read and stories and inspiration will be
shared.

SANDY AND ITS AFTERMATH

Artists and Communities Respond to Hurricane Sandy

Hera Gallery invites you to the opening reception of Sandy and Its Aftermath: Artists and Communities Respond to Hurricane SandyThe exhibition will take place in the Hoxie Gallery located within the Westerly Public Library on 44 Broad Street, Westerly, RI from December 5th through December 29th. The reception will be held from 6:00 to 8:00pm this Wednesday, December 5th.
Sandy and its Aftermath showcases work from RI and CT artists and stories from the local community, presenting a platform to simultaneously and holistically showcase the hurricane's effect on the area. The exhibition is conceived and organized by Dora Szekely in conjunction with Hera Gallery and art work has been juried by Dave Gilly Gilstein, co-owner and Director of The Charlestown Gallery and Szekely, Director of Hera Gallery. The exhibition encouraged submissions of all media.
Szekely seeks to capture the local story of the hurricane throughout the coastal area, choosing Westerly as a central location between Narragansett, RI and Mystic, CT. Dora hopes to create a revealing record of the local impact of the hurricane from a human standpoint as well as an arts by providing a forum for these stories to collide and join to reveal a common experience. Donations will also be accepted throughout the exhibition and a portion of art sales will go towards CT and RI relief efforts.
Sandy will showcase the work of Amanda Swain Bingham, Alexandra Broches, Dylan Butler, Buddy Conklin, David Culton, John Devaney, Millie Donovan, Sandra Enos, Ana Flores, Claudia Flynn, Laura Foray, Catherine Gibson, Mary Lauzon, Viera Levitt, Robert Malin, Jill McLaughlin, Dan Potter, Maria Scaglione, Chad Amos Self, Linda Denosky Smart, Elaine Stannard, Dora Szekely, Troy West, and Michael Yefko.
The exhibition's community section will be open to submissions until the opening of December 5th and throughout the show, until December 29th to anyone who wishes to submit stories, photographs, videos, poetry or pieces based on Sandy and its aftermath. Submissions may be sent to Hera Gallery, 10 High Street, Wakefield RI or dropped off at The Westerly Public Library located at 44 Broad Street, Westerly, RI at the circulation desk during library hours.
The exhibition will take place in the Hoxie Gallery, located within the historic Westerly Public Library on 44 Broad Street, Westerly, RI. The public is invited to attend the opening reception of Sandy and Its Aftermath held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5th.
